KANSAS CITY, Kan. - An abused dog is getting a new "leash" on life after being tied up for most of his life.
Tarzan is a two-year-old retriever mix who was nearly strangled by his collar.
Kansas City, Kan., Animal Control and Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption rescued him.
They think he grew into the collar, leaving his neck badly wounded and say unfortunately, it’s something they see far too often.
“What probably happened was they got him as a puppy, chained him up outside and left the same collar on him and the collar just embedded into his neck," Veterinarian Technician Kristen Saluto said.
Tarzan received several stitches and is on antibiotics. They hope to put him up for adoption in Mission, Kan., within the next three weeks.
