OVERLAND PARK, Kansas - The line of girls swelled to the 1000's this morning in front of the new American Girl doll store.
The young customers started lining up at 3 Friday afternoon for Saturday's 9 A.M. grand opening at Oak Park Mall.
That sets the record for American Girl stores.
The dolls are this generation's Cabbage Patch kids.
Girls rushed into the store to pick their dolls, design doll sized t-shirts or give them a new hairstyle.
By mid morning, 2,000 girls were shopping with their parents.
Mom, Karen Rice, said, "I have to s say I wanted to come too. I'm always up for an adventure. This is fun and a big deal for Kansas City. My daughter said to me, 'This will be something I'll remember my whole life, Mom'. I'm like ok."
She and her daughter got in line at midnight.
The American Girl doll store is located in the old Rainforest Cafe in Overland Park's Oak Park Mall.
