KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A massive gas explosion rocked the Country Club Plaza Tuesday night, injuring a least nine people and leveling a popular plaza restaurant.

It wasn’t long before volunteers stepped up to help those affected by the fire.

The Salvation Army has two trucks and six volunteers giving assistance to anyone in the area who may need it.

Three Kansas City Area Transportation busses parked at 47th Street and Madison providing shelter to displaced residents until they were allowed back in their buildings.

The Q Hotel and Spa, 560 Westport Rd, is offering a free room for Tuesday night to anyone displaced by the fire. Call 816-931-0001 for more information.

Authorities have asked the general public to avoid the area. Many of the streets surrounding the scene are closed.

We'll continue to update this story as more resources become available.
