KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A local columnist says African Americans aren't getting the attention they deserve.

Sunday morning, a black history forum was held at the All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church.

Keynote speaker, Louis Diuguid is a columnist with the Kansas City Star.

He says African Americans are treated poorly by the media.

"Either African Americans don't show up in the media, which leaves people to think that this isn't a group of folks who we should pay attention to, or African Americans show up in negative ways, which also leaves people to think that that's all there is", said Diuguid.

Diuguid admits television stations and The Star are doing a better job covering African American events in the community.
