KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A car ran into a power pole in Kansas City Wednesday night, killing a 13-year-old boy and injuring the 20-year-old driver.
The 13-year-old victim was identified as Braxton Woods. His older brother, Jacobe Woods, was driving.
Their aunt, Doreatha Rivers, said Braxton was a student at University Academy and loved basketball.
"You would have loved him if you saw him. He was a 'yes ma'am' and 'no sir' kid," she said. "Jacobe definitely looked after his little brother. I don't know what happened last night, (but) I know this wasn't his intention."
Police said some power was knocked out in the area of the crash, which happened at 27th and Elmwood at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, but Kansas City Power & Light was reporting no outages in the immediate area early Thursday.
Crews closed 27th Street between Elmwood and Poplar while they worked to fix the pole.
The cause of the crash remained unclear.
