KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The cast of "Modern Family" ended up trapped in a Kansas City elevator Friday night, according to a fire official.

Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet were all in town for the "Kids Nighth Out" fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Kansas City at Crown Center.

Just after 9 p.m. Friday, fire crews were called to the Sheraton Hotel at Crown Center on reports of an elevator rescue. Rumors that the cast was involved immediately started flying on Twitter.

Ferguson, who plays Mitchell on the award-winning comedy series, even tweeted a picture of them in the elevator, pictured above.

A firefighter confirmed to 41 Action News that 15 people were stuck on a freight elevator at the hotel -- including the cast members. They were all rescued just before 10 p.m.

"Finally made it out of the stuck elevator at the one hour mark," Ferguson tweeted Friday night with a video of Bowen being pulled out of the elevator. "At least the firemen in K.C. are cute."

Ferguson tweeted another video of the cast members and others in the elevator saying "Get us out."

Stonestreet, a Kansas City, Kan., native who went to Kansas State University and plays Missouri native Cam on the show, was proud of his handling of the situation.

"I honestly handled being stuck in an elevator for 50min better than I thought," he tweeted . "All @jessetyler did was pass wind."
