City Hall building turns 75, renovations lead to $135,000 in savings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Thursday was a very special day for the Kansas City community and its leaders as City Hall marked its 75th birthday.

Mayor Sly James and other city leaders attended a birthday celebration that included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a cake made into the shape of the building.

"It has stood through good times and bad, and it remains standing continuing to pay dividends to this city and to the wise investment of 1931 that led to its building," James said.

The building recently received renovations including new pumps, motors and energy-efficient lighting.

These changes helped save the city more than $135,000 in energy costs and led to Energy Star certification from the EPA.
