KANSAS CITY, Missouri - More than 100 families will soon call a Kansas City landmark home.
Construction of the Grand Boulevard Lofts in the historic gates building is finished.
The building was vacant for 10 years and has now been converted to 134 low-income housing units.
Developers say the lofts provide affordable living in the heart of downtown.
"More of the downtown housing you would find would be expensive condominiums or upscale lofts. One thing that's really exciting about this project is the availability of these apartments to people who are at a lower or medium income,” said Andrew Halverson of Sherman Associates.
One and two bedroom units are available to rent.
The Gates Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
