KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City continues down the road for a streetcar project.

The City Council unanimously approved paying for a preliminary engineering project that would study the streetcar system on Thursday.

Money for the $1.3 million project would come from three different Tax Increment Financing projects that had money left over.

“Looking at what other communities have done, yes, it’s critical to start a rail system to have it expand through the city,” said Sherri McIntyre, director of public works.

Organizers say they will continue looking at ways to get federal funding after missing out on a $25 million grant last month.
