LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. - After more than 24-hours, crews have recovered the body of 49-year-old Brian D. Allen from a Lee’s Summit trench.
Allen became trapped Thursday afternoon while working to connect a sewer line from a house to the city’s sewer line.
Crews worked all through the night and into the morning to recover Allen’s body.
Allen was from Windsor, Mo. and neighbors say he will be missed.
"It's just so sad -- it's just a bad deal," Claudale Medlock, one of Allen's neighbors said.
Medlock remembered seeing Allen driving his plumbing truck on most days.
"We'll definitely be remembering them in our prayers in our thoughts and prayers because through this time it's gotta be difficult," he said.
For 16 years Allen worked for Strate plumbing based in Holden. His boss, Larry Strate, was too devastated to talk on camera but said Allen "was like a son" to him.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has six months to investigate Allen's accident.
The trench has since been filled in.
