PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. - The intersection of 75th and Roe is closed after a fatal accident Friday afternoon.
A Prairie Village police officer spotted a black Mercedes going 48 mph in a 35 zone and attempted to initiate a traffic stop going eastbound on 75th, but the vehicle did not stop for police.
The police officer backed off after the Mercedes took off. The car then car crashed into a silver vehicle in the intersection. The driver of the silver car was killed.
The suspect, Roy Lee Maney, was booked into Johnson County Jail Friday evening.
The victim was only 19 blocks for her home when the accident occurred.
The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene after the crash, but was taken into custody blocks away near 78th and Roe.
There was suspicion that the Mercedes was stolen, but police confirm that is not the case and that the name of the suspect matches the registration of the vehicle.
A total of five cars were involved in the crash.
No one else involved in the crash was taken to the hospital.
