GRANDVIEW, Mo. - Fire crews responded to a blaze at a chemical production plant in Grandview Tuesday morning.

Calls came in about 5:30 a.m. to Caravan Ingredients, 13830 Botts Road.

When 41 Action News reporter Zach Tecklenburg arrived on scene a little before 6 a.m., the fire was under control.

According to the assistant chief of the Grandview Fire Department, the fire started in a commercial drier unit on the third floor of the building.

Between 40 and 50 people were working in the building when the fire started, the assistant chief said. All were safely evacuated.

According to the company’s website, the ester plant plant produces stearoyl lactylates & distilled monoglyceride products, spray chilled emulsifiers & fats, and hydrated monoglycerides.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage.
