KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City firefighters were called to the 3800 block of Brooklyn Avenue early Sunday morning on a structure fire.
Fire crews arrived on scene before 5 a. m. and battled the three story building fire for hours before getting the flames under control. Investigators believed the building was vacant, but in the process of being renovated.
Mike Ivancic is the property manager. He said the owner was in the process of renovating the building into a transitional house for homeless veterans. Those plans will now have to be postponed.
"We'll find another building, I think. They're out there," Ivancic said. "There's thousands of them out there we can find. Hopefully, we can pick one up, work with the city, and get it to where we got this one."
Investigators have not determined what started the fire.
