KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Officers from the Kansas City and Edwardsville, Kan., Police and Fire Departments searched fruitlessly in and near the Kansas River Saturday night for a fisherman who reportedly entered the water and did not resurface.
The man, whose name has not yet been released to the public, was reported to have entered the river near where I-435 passes over it in Wyandotte County. He was reported missing about 7:30 p.m., touching off the manhunt by officers on foot, in boats and in aircraft.
The search was called off as darkness fell Saturday night. However, late Saturday night, Assistant Chief Craig Duke of the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department issued a written statement, saying his department would be back out on the river Sunday morning, using a boat with sonar equipment to search below the water’s surface.
