KANSAS CITY, Kansas - Taking a dip in a cool pool probably sounds good in the summer heat.

It added up to a lot of trouble for one man.

Thanks to the quick actions of a metro teen he is okay.

Casandra Andrews received a life saving award from the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.

The shy 12-year-old was taken back by the attention.

It was back in June she went was at the pool when a 49-year-old man had jumped in and started struggling.

With more than a dozen people around the pool, Casandra was the only one who reacted.

“I had to jump in and then grab him and pull him over to the other side and pull his pants up so I could get him out of the water."

She didn't hesitate, despite the fact that the man was twice her size.

Casandra and her mom have become friends with the man she saved.

He continues to thank the soft-spoken life saver.

Cassandra now says she wants to become a life guard someday.
