OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Grace Church in Overland Park is hosting "Barefoot Sunday" to help provided shoes for the HopeFaith Ministries, an organization that serves Kansas City's homeless population.
Grace Church challenged its members to come to church on Sunday with their shoes on, but to leave barefoot. The mission is to support Kansas City's homeless by donating new and gently used shoes to men, women and children who need them.
David Watterson is a missions director for the church. He says the "Barefoot Sunday" idea started off small, but quickly grew into a community wide effort.
"We've had shoes donated from all over," Watterson said. "We even got a box of shoes from London. It's been great."
The shoe drive will continue throughout the month of July. For more information go to www.VisitGraceChurch.com.
