HazMat and fire crews are using cubes of dry ice to put out a fire burning in a large container of epoxy and calcium nitrate.
Authorities were called about 10:30 a.m. to the area of Gardner and Walrond, in the East Bottoms area.
Kansas City Fire Department spokesman Joe Vitale said the dry ice would put a blanket over the fire and eliminate the oxygen.
Vitale said nobody had been injured and no evacuations had been ordered.
Epoxy is a glue-like substance used in adhesives and in the construction of reinforced plastic materials.
