North Kansas City, Mo. - Hot dogs are helping to keep a Kansas City police dog safe.
The owner of J and R’s Hot Dogs in North Kansas City raised money for a bullet-proof dog vest.
Janet Canseco donates most of the cart's profits and 100 percent of its tips to an organization that purchases the dog vests called Vest'n PDP.
Canseco says she is just showing her appreciation for the dogs' hard work.
“They're risking their lives and they really deserve a little help from people like us to get them a vest so that they are protected when they go to work," Canseco said.
This is the first KCPD canine officer to receive a vest from Canseco’s donations.
The vests typically cost between $1,600 and $2,400.
