TOPEKA, Kan. - Lawmakers will decide if there should be a closer look at the how the Kansas Department of Revenue managed the $40 million DMV computer system upgrade.

On Tuesday morning, the Legislative Post Audit Committee will consider the request at its meeting. Sen. Laura Kelly , a Topeka Democrat, made the initial audit request and worked with staff members to draft the scope of what the analysis will include.

According to the document , “Legislators would like to know whether the department has adequately managed the implementation of its new motor vehicle system, and why county treasurers have had problems operating it.”

The audit would take an estimated four months to complete.

Lawmakers will consider 27 audit requests at the meeting and likely approve only a few of them, according to Justin Stowe, Deputy Legislative Post Auditor.
