KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Sunday was quite a day for Iowans Darren and Sherry Warth -- they celebrated their anniversary and they were named Grand Champions of the 34th annual World Series of Barbecue at the American Royal contest.
The husband-and-wife pitmasters triumphed over 560 other teams, taking home the $12,500 top prize from the Royal and a further $5,000 from Kingsford because they use that brand of charcoal in their smoker.
They use the team name Smokey D's.
