KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police and Sheriff deputies in Jackson County are cracking down on drivers who illegally park in the handicap spots.

On Saturday, officers from various police departments wrote tickets to those who did not have a handicap sticker or license plate.

They wrote about 110 tickets in the metro area.

"The main purpose of the day is simply to alert people. To be kind to others and to make sure that handicapped accessible parking is there for the truly disabled, who need them most", said Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster.

Koster added this won't be the last time police hand out a large number of tickets for parking in handicap spots.
