KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Kansas City is home to one of the safest neighborhoods in the country.

Most Americans associate cities with big crime, but Walletpop.com says even big cities with high crime rates can have very safe neighborhoods.

Some city neighborhoods are actually safer than most cities in America, regardless if they are rural or urban.

Platte Woods, with area code 64151, is ranked among the safest neighborhoods in Kansas City.

It is 74 percent safer than all U.S. neighborhoods. The list is made up of two lists of neighborhoods – highly affluent city neighborhoods or modest-income neighborhoods with tightly-knit working-class families.

Platte Woods attributes it success and safety to good schools, its own police force, and low foreclosure rates.
