KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One of the Kansas City Zoo’s biggest hitters is on the disabled list.
Nikita, the 6-year-old polar bear who lives in the Polar Bear Passage, is sick and resting behind the scenes at the zoo.
"He is being closely monitored and treated by our professional veterinary and keeper staff for an intestinal upset stomach,” Zoo CEO and Director Randy Wisthoff said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Nikita’s new housemate, Berlin, will be roaming their habitat all by herself.
“Nikita will remain in his comfortable behind the scenes bedroom until he is back to his mischievous self," Wisthoff said.
Vets are giving Nikita gastrointestinal medicine and keeping him on strict bland diet of boiled beef.
