LIBERTY, Mo. - On any given day of the week the story is the same for motorists driving in what's called the Kansas Street Corridor. Because of high traffic volume Liberty police say there are a great number of car crashes in the corridor.
The area being called the Kansas Street Corridor Is a half mile stretch from Kansas St. and I 35 to Kansas St. and 291. Kansas Street is also known as 152 Highway.
In 2011 there were 152 crashes in the Kansas corridor, and in 2012 there were 154 crashes. This year 82 crashes have been reported through August.
Libberty city officials say most of the crashes are fender-benders and non-injury crashes. Distracted driving is one of the reasons cited for a number of the crashes.
Sometimes motorists are distracted by other people in the car not paying attention to traffic or using their cell phones. City leaders are asking motorists to pay closer attention while they're waiting at traffic lights and allow enough distance between their car and the car in front of it.
Plans are in the works in Liberty to build alternate traffic routes that would alleviate the high volume of traffic in the Kansas Corridor.
