KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A local cemetery is mourning the loss of its mascot, Ella the deer who was found shot to death on Sunday.
Ella greeted visitors at the historic Elmwood Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo., for the past two years.
She spent all of her time in the cemetery where people would visit just to see and pet her.
The deer would linger outside the chapel during weddings and would stand next to groups during funerals.
"She was so special. I'd say here amongst the dead she brought a lot of life. She brought a lot of joy and happiness to people who would visit here,” Bruce Mathews of the cemetery said.
Ella will be cremated and her ashes put to rest at Elmwood cemetery.
