KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Cyrus Fillmore has been building and playing drums by hand for the past 20 years. Through a reference, he got an unexpected call.
“I’m not a football fan. I’ve never been to a NFL game in my life, and here’s the NFL calling me,” Fillmore said.
It was the Chiefs, requesting a drum. But not just any big drum.
“They wanted a really big one,” Fillmore said. “This is by far the largest drum I’ve ever made.”
The drum sits 5-and-a-half feet in diameter, and took six week to complete. The big sound matches its big size.
Fillmore’s neighbor who lives three-quarters of a mile away said he could hear the drum at his house, so fans at the Arrowhead should have no problem hearing it.
“My first trip into Arrowhead Stadium, I’m walking in with a big drum,” Fillmore said.
The drum will be unveiled this Sunday just before kickoff. Fillmore will be one of many fans in attendance.
