A local high school is trying to prevent teen drinking by using a breathalyzer at prom.
Students at Cristo Rey High School in Kansas City, Mo., will be screened at random when they arrive for the dance.
The school bought the breathalyzer a few years ago to use at extracurricular activities.
The whole idea is to keep students safe.
"If they are asked to participate in it, then it's a quick three second kind of thing. Most oblige,” explained Assistant Principal Michael Padow. “It's not that big of a deal for them. But it gives some piece of mind to us."
The school said it hasn’t had any issues in the past with students being intoxicated at prom.
