Local school districts send messages to parents following Connecticut shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - School districts around the Kansas City metro area were quick to send messages to parents and students. 

Blue Valley School District Superintendent Tom Trigg touched on school safety:

While the sobering fact is that no community is immune to senseless violence, one of the core values in the Blue Valley School District is a commitment to safe schools for students, staff and parents. We are also fortunate to have great public safety resources and have been in contact with police chiefs in Overland Park, Leawood, and Olathe as well as the Johnson County Sherriff’s Department. We are appreciative of the support we enjoy with our local law enforcement as well as our own campus security team. With all of our efforts, we remain committed to a safe school system.

In DeSoto, Superintendent Doug Sumner issued a statement.  Here is a portion of it:

As we continue to follow the horrible details related to this situation, we wanted to provide assurance that USD 232 District and School Crisis Teams have been alerted and all schools have scheduled Crisis Team meetings that will occur prior to our students' return on Monday morning.... Please do not hesitate to contact your child's school if we can offer additional support. As always, counselors will be on site to assist students as needed.

The Park Hill School District sent out this message:

In this time of tragedy, we not only think of those who are suffering, we also embrace our own children in our own school community. As we do every year, we will work with local emergency responders to examine our crisis response plans to make sure we are doing everything we can to keep Park Hill students and staff safe.
