Local veteran surprised with van from Cars 4 Heroes

LENEXA, Kan. - A local veteran received a generous gift as thanks for serving our country.

Thursday night, the nonprofit organization Cars 4 Heroes donated a van to Christina Keener.

Keener served as a combat medic for 15 years and has three children. She said she's been walking to work and school everyday because of problems with her car.

"It's been awful trying to rely on other people just to get somewhere, just like the grocery store or not being able to have a ride to get to work, or pick up your daughter from cheerleading practice," Keener said. "It has been really rough,"

Right now, Keener is working on her bachelor's degree in nursing and plans to re-enlist in the military in the future.
