GRANDVIEW, Mo. - Standing in her Grandview apartment surrounded by cupcakes, Jaime Simmons knows her business is off to a great start.
"It's been great. It's really been great," says Simmons.
Simmons owns Tokens of My Confection Cupcakery. She opened her home-based business after seeing an article in a business magazine that said the cupcakes were a multi-billion dollar industry.
"It was a no brainer. I wanted a piece of that pie," said Simmons.
Simmons has a background in public relations and marketing so she knew that advertising her business to others was an important part of her start up plan. She did not expect was an invitation to sponsor a gifting suite at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles, but that's exactly what she got thanks to networking.
"I baked and packed up more than 400 cupcakes and sent them to LA, and then my team showed up and got to work." said Simmons.
Simmons was able to feed and converse with dozens of celebrities like Jillian Michaels from the Biggest Loser and Essence Atkins from the television series "Are We There Yet."
"Jillian Michaels ate one cupcake and then asked for another one, I was like, yes," exclaimed Simmons.
The 31 year-old entrepreneur has already seen a spike in business since going to the Golden Globes.
She also accepted the invitation to sponsor a gifting suite at the Oscars in February.
