KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A contractor doing underground work struck a natural gas line outside of JJ's Restaurant on the Country Club Plaza, according to Missouri Gas Energy.
In a statement released late Tuesday night, MGE said the investigation into what caused the explosion and fire that leveled the restaurant is still under investigation.

MGE workers were able to turn off the flow of gas in the area around 8 p.m.
At least 14 people were injured in the explosion, including one MGE worker and a JJ's employee. Three people are still unaccounted for.

Cadaver dogs were sent to the scene Tuesday night.
