KANSAS CITY, Mo. - On July 12, the Missouri Department of Transportation will tear down the 12th St. bridge in downtown Kansas City. Crews will immediately begin preparation to build a new bridge at the same site.
The construction project will mean that 12th St. will be closed in both directions while the bridge is being replaced. Motorists will have to find an alternate route.
The project is expected to be completed in September.
"We don't like to inconvenience motorists, but this bridge needs to be replaced," said Tom Markway, MODOT spokesperson.
The 12th St. bridge replacement Is one of several projects in the downtown loop area. MoDOT is rehabbing 10 bridges in downtown Kansas City.
