KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Bread of Life Outreach Church in Kansas City, Kan., is running out of money as they try to feed the homeless.
The church's homeless program serves more than 70 people on some Sundays at its church at 2510 Nebraska Avenue. But those people may soon have to find somewhere else to go, because the church does not have enough money to keep up with the needs of the congregation and the mortgage payment.
Kevin Rowan is the pastor of the church. He says they recently transitioned into a full outreach church focused on helping the homeless.
"We would go out to the homeless shelters and just drive around on Friday nights and just hand out hot chocolate, warm blankets, lunch bags," Rowan said.
Rowan says they have seen a reduction in long-time church members since they started the homeless outreach, but he hopes to partner with other churches or local businesses to keep his church open.
