KEARNEY, Mo. - A Johnson County, Kan., man died Monday afternoon in the second of a series of four traffic accidents on a snowy highway in Missouri.
The series of events began at about 4 p.m. when two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near Highway 92 in Kearney.
One of the drivers, 35-year-old Christopher Barnes, of Shawnee, Kan., got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage and check on the other driver, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman Bill Lowe.
A third vehicle began to slide on the snow-covered road, hitting Barnes and then one of the vehicles involved in the first crash.
Barnes was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lowe said two other minor traffic crashes occurred moments after Barnes was struck.
