NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. - If you've drive through North Kansas City on Interstate-35 recently, you've noticed the big cranes knocking down part of the old milling operation on Armour Road.

City leaders have a concept they believe will bring commuters off the Interstate and into the city.

Crews started demolishing the century-old silos and buildings at the end of last year. Once the last piece is down and a developer is named, the area will be full of hotels, retail stores and office space.

North Kansas City bought the milling operation a couple of years ago. City leaders came up with an exit plan to take down one of the last remaining facility with industrial roots in the city.

"As any business they have a life cycle unfortunately some of our legacy types of businesses have reached an end," said Jeff Samborski, economic development manager.

This major redevelopment is expected to bring new business and even more revenue in the next couple years. Demolition is scheduled to be finished in the next six weeks.
