KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car Monday night in the city's old northeast district.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Independence Avenue and Kensington just after 6:30 p.m. Officers determined the man either fell or was lying in the street when he was hit.

"Two cars were approaching while he was laying down, and the first driver was able to steer around this individual, but the second driver's view was obscured and drove over him," explained Sgt. Bill Mahoney, with the Kansas City Police Department.

While the victim was revived on the scene, he died from his injuries at an area hospital.

The driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with police. No charges are expected to be filed.
