Photo of baby getting patted down by TSA agents at Kansas City International Airport goes viral

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - A photo of two Transportation Security Administration agents doing a full pat down on a baby, approximately 8 months old, has gone viral.

It happened at the Kansas City International Airport.

A passenger, Jacob Jester, captured the image on his cell phone.

Since he tweeted the picture on Saturday, it has had more than 200,000 views.

The photo shows the baby being held up in the air by his mother while the TSA workers do their job.

Jester has an 8-month-old son and would not want his son to be subjected to a hand search by TSA agents.

In a statement, the TSA said they have reviewed the screening and determined agents followed proper protocol.

Jester said he understands and appreciates security but does not agree that a baby should be hand-searched.

“Still, my opinion is that I would wonder why an 8-month-old would be a security threat to this nation,” concluded Jester.

TSA released the following statement to NBC Action News:

“TSA has reviewed the screening of this family and determined that the officers involved followed proper current screening procedures. After the child's stroller alarmed during explosives screening, officers followed protocol to conduct additional screening on members of the family, who were very cooperative.

While children are not exempt from security screening, Administrator Pistole has tasked the agency with exploring additional ways to focus its resources and move beyond a one-size fits all system while maintaining a high level of security. As part of this effort, TSA has been actively reviewing its screening policies and procedures to streamline and improve the screening experience for low-risk populations, such as younger passengers.”
