KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The landing gear of a small plane locked up on impact and damaged some runway lights before coming to a stop at the Charles Wheeler airport Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after 1:00 p. m. Thursday, a Bellanca, single engine plane from Garden City touched down, when its front landing gear locked up and careened the plane into the runway lights before coming to a stop.
The airport was shut down for about 20 minutes while officials investigated.
One runway was then opened. After the small wood and canvass plane was removed and the runway cleared, the entire airport was subsequently reopened about two hours later.
The two people on board were not injured.
