A husband and wife were killed Sunday in a plane crash at Kansas City’s Charles B. Wheeler Airport.
Authorities said John and Diana Lallo were the only two people on the plane, which crashed around 2:45 p.m.
Airport spokesman Joe McBride said the Mooney single-engine aircraft was heading southwest when it crashed into a field between the runway and the river.
Witnesses said they watched the plane circle back toward the airport before it crashed.
FAA spokesperson Lynn Lunsford said FAA investigators were on the scene Sunday. Lunsford said the pilot reported engine problems before crashing.
41 Action News investigated further and found the Mooney model airplane has been involved in 306 crashes since 1977, according to the NSTB database.
The NTSB will continue investigating the cause of the crash. We will update you with details as they become available.
