OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Overland Park Police were called to Oak Park Mall shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday when a crowd that had gathered outside anticipating the release of a new basketball shoe became unruly.

Police Captain Todd Chappell said about 100 people had gathered near a north-side mall entrance when some of them began fighting for the first place in line.

"They were unruly, and we had to disperse the crowd and we canceled the event,” Chappell said. “They were outside, and the release was supposed to take place in up to four stores. ... Now we're in a holding pattern until the mall opens at 10 a.m.”

The coveted shoe in question is the Nike Zoom KD IV "Scoring Title," named for NBA star Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma Thunder.
