KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The mother of three children jumped from a moving car Wednesday morning in a desperate attempt to escape her kidnapper.
Antoinette Leak's nightmare began about 3:45 a.m. when a man believed to be her ex-boyfriend pounded on the door of her home.
She opened the door and the man immediately grabbed her, according to police.
The man threw her off the front porch and dragged her to his car.
Police said the man repeatedly punched the woman and told her she would never see her children again.
She decided to try to escape as the car drove down Prospect Avenue, near East 74th Street, police said.
The man tried to grab her as she went out the door.
He grabbed her shirt and it tore from her body, police said.
She made it a short distance before her kidnapper caught her.
Once again, the man beat her and threw her into the car.
Leak told police she thought the man dropped something in a dollar store parking lot during the chase.
He stopped the car in the parking lot and again told her he would kill her if she tried to escape.
Leak jumped from the car and raced 18 blocks to safety.
Her feet and legs aching, she stopped about two blocks from her house.
41 Action News reporter Syed Shabbir was there when Leak called her aunt and told her she was nearby.
Family members ran to her.
A man carried her to a car and drove to a hospital.
The search continues for the suspect.
