KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police say an 11-year-old Kansas City girl reported missing Thursday evening has been found safe.
The girl stayed home from school Thursday when she overslept, her family says.
When her mother returned from work Thursday, she was not in her residence in the Greens Apartments, located in the 9400 block of Newton Avenue in south Kansas City.
Police tell NBC Action News reporter Najahe Sherman officers forced entry into an apartment in the 9500 block of Drury when they heard the girl screaming for help.
She had a scratch on her leg and was taken to an area hospital for evaluation. The adult who lives in the apartment was not home when police arrived.
Authorities are still investigating what exactly happened and how the girl came to be inside the apartment.
