Power knocked out to thousands in Kansas City area

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Early-morning storms knocked out power to thousands in the Kansas City area Thursday.

Kansas City Power & Light reported 5,748 customers without power as of 7:45 a.m. with the highest concentrations of outages in Lake Waukomis, where more than 1,400 had no electricity.

By 10:30 a.m., the number of outages in KCP&L's entire service area had fallen to 623.
