Proposed KCI changes get unanimous vote of approval from KC Chamber

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The proposed changes to Kansas City International Airport received a unanimous show of support from the Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber's board of directors voted to support the one-terminal concept after a recommendation from its own Aviation Committee.

“While so many of us have loved KCI over the years, it’s definitely out-of-date and time for a change,” Jim Heeter, president and chief executive officer of the KC Chamber, said in a statement released Thursday.

KCI opened Nov. 11, 1972 and was designed to be traveler friendly.

Airport Director Mark VanLoh told 41 Action News in October that airport officials understand Kansas City residents love the convenience of KCI. He said their goal in creating a new, single airport terminal is to make it even easier for flyers.

The project is expected to cost $1.2 billion. It would be paid for with airline and passenger fees.
