RIVERSIDE, Mo. - Southbound I-635 was briefly closed in Riverside, Mo., Wednesday night following a rollover crash.
Just after 7 p.m., Kansas City, Kan., police responded to shots fired in the 2900 block of S. 51st Street.
When police arrived, they spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle, a black 2010 Kia Forte, leaving the scene.
Police initiated a pursuit as the vehicle went northbound on I-635.
The chase ended on southbound 635, just south of I-29, with the car on its side.
Riverside just happened to have officers in the area who then joined in on the high-speed chase.
Once the car turned south again and got inside Riverside city limits, officers used stop sticks which they credit for finally putting an end to the erratic and dangerous situation.
"Due to the nature of the crime, the danger to society, the danger to the public this was important that we get these subjects into custody," Sgt. Brent Holland with the Riverside Police Department said.
Five suspects are in currently in custody; two men and three females, one of which was a teenager. Police say all five suspects were unharmed.
