KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Thursday afternoon, the City Council heard from a transportation group that is proposing the use of Main street for a new streetcar route.
It could bring a lot of economic development to the corridor if the plan becomes reality.
The plan would use modern streetcars that would run on tracks built into the street, and regular traffic can run in the same lane.
It would travel the two miles from Crown Center north to through the downtown loop to the River Market.
It still needs to be approved by the council.

Part of the funding would probably come from a new sales or property tax just in the area along Main Street served by the streetcar.
Grand Boulevard was the second choice route.
The plan also compared streetcars to an enhanced bus service.
