KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Destination Safe Coalition is pushing to restrict texting while driving for all drivers -- not just those under 21.

Almost one-fourth of traffic fatalities in the Kansas City area involve distracted driving. The coalition is bringing police and lawmakers together to fight distracted driving.

Chad Kitzman was in a distracted-driving-related crash. Doctors gave him a 1 percent chance of surviving.

He says answering his cell phone wasn't worth what he had to go through.

"The scariest surgery was when the neurosurgeon went in to remove part of my skull on the left side of my head,” said Kitzman. “Because the traumatic brain injuries i suffered left my brain swelling up and they had to relieve pressure so I didn't die."
