KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Tow truck drivers took to the streets on Saturday to pay tribute to Blake Gresham, a fellow tow truck driver struck and killed on Monday by a passing semi-truck driver.
Witnesses reported as many as 200 tow trucks driving Saturday morning from Interstate 435 to Interstate 35. Gresham, 18, was working on the side of northbound I-35 at Front Street when a passing semi driver struck and killed him on Monday.
The accident resulted in many in the industry speaking out about the need for safety when working on the side of the road. Other tow truck operators asked drivers to merge at least a lane away to increase safety for drivers.
Gresham's funeral was Saturday morning. On Tuesday, metro tow truck drivers, family and friends gathered for a vigil for Gresham. That vigil also included a tow truck procession.
