KANSAS CITY, Mo. - According to police, 17-year-old Alycia Cornelius was a passenger in the car that lost control while racing another vehicle on Hillcrest near 87th Street early Wednesday afternoon.
Alycia was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. A Hickman Mills School District spokesman said that she was a junior at Ruskin High School and had skipped school on Wednesday.
Alycia would have turned 18 on April 25. The spokesman said that the passenger in the other car was also a Ruskin student and one of Alycia’s best friends.
The unidentified driver was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the second car in the race was seen shortly after the crash being taken away by police in handcuffs. It wasn’t immediately clear if he will face any charges.
