ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - A 54-year-old trucker from South Dakota died Saturday evening on I-29 highway when his truck struck another one 11 miles north of St. Joseph.
Michael T. Cohoon of Brandon, S.D., was killed in the crash, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
A 1997 GMC “boom truck” driven by Gary Grable, 56, of St. Joseph, had just pulled from the shoulder of the road into the southbound driving lane when Cohoon’s Freightliner semi-truck struck it from behind, the MHP report said.
Cohoon’s truck went off the west side of the road, jackknifed and came to rest on its wheels. Grable’s truck went off the opposite side of the road, overturned and came to rest in the median.
Cohoon was pronounced dead at St. Joe’s Heartland Hospital, while Grable and an occupant in his truck suffered only minor injuries, refusing immediate treatment.
